This week I received my coil pot. I think that the most suscessful part of my pot is the shape of the pot. I think that the least suscessful part was the nearness of my glazing. If I could make the pot again I would use larger coils when building my pot so that I could build it faster. I would give myself an a on this project becase was over the height minimum and I added details when I was glazing.

This week in ceramics I started to glaze my coil pot. I decided to have white dots with a black background. I am going to paint the inside pink. I am going to make the rim white. Painting the dots and background takes a lot of time.

This week in ceramics I started my house. I put coils on at a diagonal pattern. I added a bow to the top of my hose. I also made the bottom of my roof curved. I also finished my box

I made a Pineapple. If I made it again I would make less crossing lines because they took up so much time. My favorite thing about my project is that there is color in between the lines. I glazed my pineapple with the colors green and orange. I am very pleased with the way it turned out.

This week in ceramics I cut the pieces for my house. I also made my house and worked on my box. I made the gems for my box by cutting round pieces of clay. When I was making the slabs for my house I made them on the wrong setting so I had to remake them. I cut the gems in half and attached them to the side of my box.

This week I finished glazing my pinch pot during gaels  period. I continued to add details to my box. I also received my fired coil pot. Since I finished my double pinch pot on Wednesday during Gaels period I did not get it on Thursday to write my critique. I added jewels and a necklace to my box.

This week I made my box. I plan to add pearls ,gems ,and diamonds. I want it to look like a jewelry box. I still have to add finishing touches and cut my box. I also have to finish glazing my pinch pot fru

This week I finished smoothing my coil pot and I created the slabs to use for my box. I had a tough time smoothing my pot because it was dry.  I did manage to smooth it out. When I was creating the slabs I could not make a sheet of clay that was large enough to cut all of the squares from it so I made various flat pieces. I also started to glaze my fruit.

This week I worked on my coil pot. The pot was challenging at first. Once I figured out how to efficiently attach coils I  worked faster. I still need to smooth my pot more. I am excited to see how it looks when it is done

Animal pinch pot critique

I think that one of the most suscessful elements of my work was the pinch pot. All of the sides were smooth and even. I also thought that the tounge was a good shape and looked like a real tounge. I smoothed all the attachments to the base pinch pot so that they would look like they were apart of the project. I think that I did a good job creating the eyes for my monkey. 

A challenge that I faced was creating the ears I was not sure where to put them at first. My teacher and I figured out that they needed to be put further back on the head. Another challenge I had was the paws at first they were flat but then I folded the end of the strip of clay over and it created a perfect paw. When I first put the eyes on it looked too much like a frog but then I decided to add a nose and it made it look more like a monkey. At first I was not sure how to make a realistic looking tounge but then I made a coil that was thicker on one side and then I flattened it out.

In upcoming projects I am going to focus on my glazing technique. Glazing is a skill that I am still improving, the glazing on this project was better than my last project. I am hoping to get better every time until my glazing is perfect.

For project requirements I give myself a 4 because I properly executed all of the requirements. For craftsmanship I would give myself a 4 because I am very pleased with the way that my project looks and I spent time cleaning up the imperfections. For creativity I would give myself a 5 because I used my creativity to think of the idea of the tounge in it's mouth and the paws holding the monkey's mouth open. For studio participation I would give myself a 5 because I was focused and efficient while I was making my project. For composition and principles I would give myself a 4 because I had a plan of what I was making before I started my project and I put a lot of effort into my project. 

Name tile critique

The most suscessful element of my work was the letters. I think that the letters looked puffy like bubble letters. I also added a texture to my letters. My letters were very glazed. When the letters were together I used a wood tool to separate them. I think that the best looking part of my project was the letters. 

I thought that the most challenging part was the base. The base changed shape when I rolled the texture on. I think that it was very hard to keep the base in the shape of a perfect rectangle. I thought that it was very challenging when I was glazing the project. I did use the black unglaze to make the patterns stand out but I think that in places the glaze covers the pattern. 

In up coming projects I am going to focus on m glazing tequniqe. I would work on using clean lines in my projects. I would also make sure my project is level in every spot so that the glaze would not pool in certain spots. This project helped me understand glazing. I will use my new knowledge of glazing when I start other projects. 

On project criteria I would give myself 5 because I added two textures and the project only required one. I would give myself a 3 for craftsmanship because all of my edges are smoothed and most of my project is clean but I faced problems when I created the base. For creativity I would give myself a 4 because I used my creative skills and imagination to visualize how different colors and patternas would look paired together. In studio participation I would give myself a 5 because I focused on my project and worked efficiently. For composition elements and principles I would give myself a 4 because I worked very hard on this project and I used the principle of variety by using different textures and colors.

This week I started to make my coil pot. I started by making the base. After I made the base I made coils and attached them on the base. I smoothed the coils as I went on. We received our glazed projects today.

This week i worked on my double pinch pot. I made a pineapple. At first I was not sure how to make the leaves but then I put a stem on the pineapple and attached leaves to that. Then once I cut the pineapple I smoothed the inside. I also made finishing touches on the glazing of my animal pinch pot

This week we put 2 pinch pot together. I made a pineapple. We also painted our pinch pot animals. I used brown paint for the body . I used red glaze for the mouth.

This week we glazed our name tiles. I thought it was very interesting how the colors are totally different when they are fired. I used black under glaze then put a pink purple on the lower surface of the tile. Then I put light turcoise on the letters I think that those colors complement eachother in a pretty way. I am excited to see how the final product turns out.

 This is a monkey. I am happy about the way it turned out. I faced chellenges when creating the tounge for the monkey because I was not sure of how long to make it. I also found creating the arms as a challenging task. I am excited to see how the final product looks.

Name Tile Greenware blog

 I liked cutting the letters the most. I had a hard time   getting the texture to really imprint on the clay. I would probably make my tile on a day when I knew that we had ceramics the very next day so that the clay wouldn't harden before I got to slip and score the letters. I had to make my tile over again because the clay was not soft when I came back to put the letters on it.

Principles of design

The animals are not balanced because a lot of their heads are larger than their body. They are unified by the fact that they are all animals and they appear to be made of wood. They are different kinds of animals. The artist used striped patterns on the cat's body. The artist also used repetition when he made 2 lion sculptures. The photo is not balanced because it has the larger objects on one side of the picture and the smaller objects on the other side. I like how it looks like the bull dog is moving.

Principles of design

I made a doughnut. I used variety when I mixed the color purple with pinks and blue to make the "frosting" interesting to the eye. I also made a pattern with the blue "sprinkles".

What is rhythm

I think that rhythm is the way things flow. I also think that rhythm is a beat so it is the way music notes or even pieces in an art piece compliment each other.

My name is Brittany Remark. I'm 14 and I'm from Las Vegas. I took art from kindergarten to 8th grade. I want to take ceramics because it looked like a fun class to take. I see art almost everywhere I see it when I'm in car and there is graffiti on the road there is also art in my house. I enjoy 3-D art and I like modern and pop art.
